As Ryerson students going to school in the heart of downtown Toronto, many students can find it challenging to stick to a healthy eating routine when there are so many tempting fast food restaurants surrounding our campus. Luckily, we’ve composed a list of healthy options around Ryerson Campus for those who have been searching for some healthy options to refuel between classes.
1. Urban Herbivore, Eaton Centre
Located in the Eaton Centre food court, this vegan/vegetarian restaurant offers a variety of options to choose from. They offer customized salads and bowls, fresh smoothies, sandwiches and even baked desserts! The portions are huge and all those healthy greens and veggies will give you the energy to get through the rest of your school day. Offering local and organic ingredients and plant based-options, this is definitely the place to come to get your daily serving of greens.
2. Basil Box, Ryerson Student Learning Centre (SLC)
Basil box is located steps away from the Ryerson SLC so why not grab a delicious and nutritious meal between study breaks! Basil Box offers Southeast Asian cuisine and also allows customers to customize their own unique bowl. With a base of spring greens, rice or noodles, customers have the option of adding a variety of veggies and protein and top it off with sauce to create the perfect, balanced meal.
3. Freshii, Eaton Centre
The popular healthy fast food chain has many locations in downtown Toronto, the closest one to Ryerson being at the Eaton Centre. Freshii offers healthy soups, salads, wraps and even juices and smoothies to give you the energy boost you need throughout the day. They even offer delicious breakfast options ranging from yogurt parfaits to healthy breakfast burritos. Now you know where to go before that 9AM class!
4. Panera Bread, 322 Yonge St.
Panera Bread does in fact have healthy options, depending on what you order. The key is to stick with the low fat options when ordering from Panera and to also stick with meals that contain the healthiest ingredients. The Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich is a great option, packed with fresh vegetables including peppers, cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes as well as feta cheese, this option contains only 460 calories and is a well-balanced meal. Another one of Panera’s healthier options is the seasonal greens salad at only 180 calories.
5. Fast Fresh Foods, Eaton Centre
Fast Fresh Foods located in the Eaton Centre food courts offers a wide range of ingredients for customers to create their own mix of salads and sandwiches. They offer fast and healthy options for the on-the-go students and offers customizable options!
